Some things are made better than other things. Obvious, I know, but then why do we still choose to buy and make things that are poor quality, won’t perform as well as others, and won’t last?

These old boots…Blundstone CSA Greenpatch. Steel toed slip-on wonder boots. They don’t look like much now and are finally in need of replacement. 6 years old. A few years of cement and mud while building foundations. Walks with Lisa and the dog on the beach pretty much every day for the past couple of years in rain and snow. Early morning surf checks. Digging in the garden. Quality. They aren’t cheap, but they are good.

We’ve been working hard the last week, and have made some great progress in the store, all the walls have been painted in Australian Boot Company colours, basement storage has been built. Walls have been framed in. It’s pretty exciting, and we’ve got a great crew of ABC staff working hard painting and cleaning. Looks like we’re on track to open in August! The tin walls, and the stock start arriving next week! I’ve posted some more pics on our facebook page. Check them out!

Tales from the Orange Car – Border Crossing

Last night I was driving back from Vermont in my bright orange boot car , and spent a significant amount of time sitting at the border. Like, two hours significant. I guess I wasn’t the only Ontarian returning home this summer weekend. As I settled in to wait out the border, I glanced to my left and noticed a woman waving at me from her car from the next lane. She mouthed through her passenger window “Can I ask you a question?”. I rolled down my window, and we proceeded to have a shouted conversation about how much she loves her Blundstone boots, but they were just starting to wear out. I asked her how long she’d had them, and she said “Oh, about 10 years.” She was planning on making the trip into Toronto to pick up a new pair and was wondering if we had something similar to her old Blundstone Canuck style. I told her about the new 561 Crazy Horse that came out in Fall 2009, so I think she’ll come in and give them a whirl. About 20 minutes and 20 feet later, a minivan on the right waved to get my attention. The parents in the front and the kids in the back, each put a foot up on their car window, to show me their Blundstones! I wish I’d had a camera!!!

Queen West Store Update – New location opening soon!

Great news – we have a new space on Queen! 698 Queen Street West, formerly known as ‘Pho Pa’, now known as Australian Boot Company! We’ve signed a lease and have picked up the keys. And yes, if you are doing the math at home, that’s practically across the street from our previous location. If you were standing facing our old store, (791 Queen) and looked over your left shoulder, you’d see our new space. We’re hoping to be open mid August. We’ll post progress reports regularly. In the meantime here are some photos of the space. It’s bright and spacious, and we’re very excited to get in there and ABC-ify it!
